Brisbane-born Jang Han-byeol left dentistry school for music, held #1 on a Malaysian chart for 52 straight weeks, and sold out a 1,500-seat Seoul fan meeting instantly.

Jang Han-byeol spent 52 consecutive weeks at the top of a Malaysian music chart—a stretch that earned her the informal title of "national star" in the country. Now she's riding that momentum back to Korea, where a 1,500-seat fan meeting at Yonsei University Grand Auditorium on July 12 sold out the instant tickets dropped.
She grew up in Brisbane and left Queensland University's dentistry program to make music instead. Red Apple brought her into the industry through teaser content. Her official debut came with her third regular album CODA. Recently she cracked the TOP3 on MBN audition program Mumeong Jeonseol (무명전설), performing a Kim Su-hee song that impressed the original artist so much she called to say so directly. "I received a direct compliment call from Kim Su-hee herself, which was a great honor," Jang said. Her mother is a Kim Su-hee fan, but Jang had her own read on the track. "I had confidence that I could reinterpret this song in my own way."
The finals hit different: her mother watched from the audience for the first time. "Thinking about performing in front of someone who has watched my entire journey, my emotions overwhelmed me," she said.
At The Fact studio in Sangam-dong on July 9, Jang was blunt about her place in the industry. "I still consider myself an unknown singer," she said. Making her name known and sharing good songs—that's what matters to her. Korea is "my roots and the stage where I wanted to be recognized most," she explained, and her parents had always wanted to see her active there. Her biggest dream: a solo concert.
