MBC Plus drama 'My Idol, My Debut' hits #1 on Lemino as IRION drops debut single 'MEMORIA'
The MBC Plus drama hit #1 on Lemino's Korean Wave/Asia chart right after its July 16 premiere. Its fictional girl group IRION made their real debut three days later.
My Idol, My Debut (최애 데뷔) went straight to #1 in Lemino's Korean Wave and Asia drama category after airing on July 16. The Japanese OTT platform result landed the same week the show's fictional girl group IRION became real.
On July 19, IRION took the stage at Megabox Coex Square Plaza for the '72ND MEGA STAGE' event. They performed title track MEMORIA, released that same day. The lead-up had included a Namu Wiki profile, social media content, YouTube variety appearances, and the surprise Coex performance timed to the music drop.
Japanese member Karin (카에데 분) is in the group. THE BOYZ member Q (Ji Chang-min / 지창민) appears in the drama. Han Geum-bi directed, Choi Yeon-su wrote, and Minari Entertainment produced.
The production team said linking the idol's growth arc in the drama with actual K-pop activities "seems to have been freshly received not only by domestic viewers but also by Japanese viewers." The time-slip mystery storyline will develop further alongside IRION's continuing real-world activities.
At the debut stage, members said: "We are really happy to be able to share our first stage with you all."
The drama airs Thursdays at 11:30 PM on MBC Drama Net and Lemino simultaneously. Episodes then roll out on MBC M, Wavve, TVING, and WATCHA.
