Namgoong Min reveals wife Jin A-reum is pregnant on KBS variety show

Namgoong Min announced that his wife Jin A-reum is pregnant during his July 10 appearance on KBS 2TV's Okdabang Problem Children, which airs Fridays at 10:20 PM.

Now in his fourth year of marriage, he recounted how the relationship started. He spent roughly two months consistently showing interest in Jin A-reum before proposing they date seriously. She turned him down immediately.

Co-host Yang Se-chan then jabbed at his physique: "Would such a physique be possible in the Joseon era?" For the drama Black Sun, Namgoong Min went from 66 kg to 84 kg over 10 months. That's an 18 kg gain. He trained three hours a day and ate up to seven meals daily. The process was brutal enough that he had nightmares about losing muscle and cried in the shower. His current weight is 65 kg. "I didn't gain weight, I just maintained a nice shape," he said. MC Kim Jong-kook responded: "It's really not easy."

Namegoong Min is currently starring in the KBS2 weekend drama Gyeolhonui Wansong alongside Kim Dae-myung. He said he had always felt an internal closeness with the quieter Kim Dae-myung until they filmed a variety segment together. "I didn't know he was the type to shell pumpkin seeds behind the scenes," he said—a Korean idiom for someone who acts one way publicly and another privately. "I thought he acted really well," he added, praising Kim's variety instincts.

On junior actors, Namgoong Min said "there has never been even one junior actor this inconsiderate." Kim Jong-kook fired back: "I can see your old-fashioned tendencies." The exchange earned Namgoong Min the nickname Namgung Kkondae (남궁꼰대) on the show.

Hong Jin-kyung also appeared on the episode. She claimed "I am writer Park Ji-eun's persona," citing her roles in You Who Came from the Stars and The Legend of the Blue Sea. Playing characters close to her real self makes acting easier, she said.

Namegoong Min originally majored in mechanical engineering before pursuing acting. He failed the talent recruitment tests at all three major Korean broadcasting networks and entered the industry after working as an extra in advertisements. He has since won acting grand prizes three times.
