KBS2's '문무 (Munmu)' drops first teaser: 30 billion won epic set for November

KBS2's Munmu dropped its first teaser on July 31, and the 30-billion-won production is already drawing serious awards-season chatter ahead of November.

Lee Hyun-wook plays Kim Beop-min, the man who becomes Silla's 30th king Munmu. The drama frames the Three Kingdoms unification war through his eyes—600 years of conflict, and the desperate, solitary choices of leaders who gambled everything on a single victory. Jang Hyuk takes on Yeon Gaesomun, Goguryeo's iron-fisted dictator. Kim Kang-woo plays Kim Chun-chu, Silla's 29th king Taejong Muyeol. Park Sung-woong joins as the renowned Silla general Kim Yu-sin. Jung Ung-in and Cho Sung-ha round out the cast.

The teaser leans hard on the weight of those roles. Kim Yu-sin asks, "Where is your will directed?" Kim Chun-chu follows with "Have you made up your mind?" Yeon Gaesomun cuts through with "Do you not hear the sound of war?" Kim Beop-min reflects internally: "All desires and grudges became flames that began to push the three kingdoms."

Directors Kim Young-jo and Koo Sung-jun share the helm. Kim Young-jo has previous sageuk credits in Jang Yeong-sil, Jingbirok, and Geunchogo Wang. The screenplay is by Kim Ri-heon and Hong Jin. Kiiist and Monster Union are producing.
