South Korea's four major K-pop agencies are launching a government-backed K-culture awards ceremony next year as the industry abandons album sales for tours, merchandise, and fan experiences.

The four major K-pop agencies have announced plans to hold a K-culture awards ceremony and festival next year in partnership with the government, with a broad K-pop focus.
The timing reflects a shift already underway. World tours across continents after domestic promotions are now standard. Experience-type events—where fans see and touch new releases in person—have become essential to any rollout. BLACKPINK fan Lee Su-jin was direct: "I came to see the BLACKPINK 'Deadline' comeback listening party."
This August alone, Stray Kids, aespa, BIGBANG, and Cortis are running world tours at the same time. Fans are crossing borders to attend. BTS fan Karina said her friends flew in from Russia just to catch a single day of a BTS concert. aespa fan Kim Jin-sol added, "It was nice to be able to keep seeing aespa when coming."
The numbers tell the story. Album and music sales are shrinking as a share of total income at the country's largest K-pop agencies, while concert, fan meeting, and merchandise revenue climbs fast. The planned K-culture awards ceremony and festival would formalize that shift at a government level, launching next year.
