Fly to the Sky announces comeback after 8 years

Fly to the Sky is coming back. Hwanhee announced on the September 26 broadcast of KBS2's Sallimnamssi (Househusband Season 2) that the R&B duo will reunite after an 8-year hiatus — a surprise drop in the middle of a Chuseok holiday episode.

Brian wanted the stage back

The reunion started with Hwanhee's 2025 solo concert. Brian showed up as a guest and performed alongside him. "Brian came to my concert last year and sang," Hwanhee said. "He said he wanted to sing again."

That was enough. Hwanhee framed it as something that had been building for a while. "We've been talking continuously," he said. Brian's guest slot seemed to flip the switch.

28 years in, two lanes at once

Fly to the Sky is a male R&B duo built around Hwanhee and Brian, known for hits including Missing You, Sea of Love, 남자답게, and 가슴 아파도. Hwanhee is now in his 28th year since debut. The 8-year gap between full group activities is a significant chunk of that run.

Here's the wrinkle: Hwanhee spent the past year building a second fanbase entirely. He competed on MBN's trot competition Hyeonyeok Gawang 2 (Active King of Singers 2), where his deep vocal tone earned him the labels "trot newcomer" and "trot crown prince" and pulled in fans well outside his original ballad audience.

He was upfront about the tension. "I was worried that trot fans might feel disappointed," he said on air. His answer was to run both lanes: Fly to the Sky activities first, soul trot after. "It's not that I'm giving up trot," he said. "I plan to continue trot activities after Fly to the Sky activities."

(Twenty-eight years in and the man is somehow managing two fanbases simultaneously.)
