Jang Sung-beom shares 'Duty 4' prop will letter on SNS: "It's not a will. You were surprised, right?"

"It's not a will" — but it reads like one

Jang Sung-beom shared a photo on September 18 of a handwritten letter he'd kept from the set. The caption was direct: "It's not a will! You were surprised, right!" The letter itself sat in a notebook, neatly written, titled -유서- (Will) and addressed "Dear Father and Mother." It was a prop he'd written during filming of the Genie TV / ENA Monday-Tuesday original drama Duty 4: Sabotage (신병4: 사보타주).

He explained how he'd stumbled on it again: "While watching the drama, I suddenly remembered and rummaged through my phone gallery and found a letter that was used as a prop during filming of Duty 4." The letter opens with a line that sets the scene — "Fortunately this is a training situation. Still, because it was conducted like real combat, I ended up writing what is called a will" — and closes with: "I love you more than anything in the world, so much that my one life is not precious."

"Even though I knew it wasn't real, as I wrote, I concentrated and became immersed in writing the letter, and that memory is still vivid."

The cast received only the situation and wrote their own letters without a script. "Have you experienced writing such a will during military service?" he asked fans. "It was so heavy-hearted, and it was a truly precious experience during filming."

Kim Dong-woo since 2022

Jang has played Kim Dong-woo in the Duty (신병) series since 2022. In Duty 4, he appears as lance corporal (일병). The show follows soldiers' daily lives, hierarchy, and conflicts inside the military through realistic depictions and comedy.

He debuted in the 2013 film Hwai: A Monster Boy (화이: 괴물을 삼킨 아이) and has since appeared in Stranger (비밀의 숲), Train (트레인), Extraordinary Attorney Woo (이상한 변호사 우영우), and the full Duty series. He closed the post with a direct appeal: "You'll watch Duty 4 all the way to the end with us, right? Loyalty! I love you."
