NU'EST's JR Kim Jong-hyun teases acting push after March discharge, fan meeting and Asia tour ahead

Kim Jong-hyun — JR of NU'EST — is making his return official. On September 24, the 30-year-old singer-actor posted a photo in full traditional hanbok: blue-toned dopo, gat, and a fan in hand, standing by a railing outdoors. His discharge came on March 22, when he completed mandatory service as a sergeant with the Army's 15th Infantry Division after enlisting in September 2024. This was his first notable public update since then.

The post carried a clear signal. Kim Jong-hyun announced a domestic fan meeting titled COMING HOME, followed by an Asia tour, and stated he plans to take on more acting roles alongside his music work.

Where he's been, where he's going

Kim Jong-hyun debuted in 2012 with NU'EST's single album FACE, serving as the group's leader under the stage name JR with main rapper and main dancer credits. He later participated in Produce 101 Season 2. His solo work under Evermore Entertainment includes mini album 1 MERIDIEM (November 2022) and mini album 2 Brilliant Seasons (January 2024).

His acting debut came in 2021 with the SBS drama Your Night (너의 밤이 돼줄게), where he played bassist Lee Shin of the band Luna in his first lead role. Web drama First Kiss followed, where he played Kim Bom. Then came Sound Candy (Kang Hae-sung) and Watcha drama My Friend's Graduation Ceremony (Kim Min-gu).

Variety work earned him a Male Variety Award and a spot in the Fan & Star Hall of Fame. He appeared in promotional content for the Gangneung region, environmental campaigns, and public service videos on drug prevention aimed at youth.

The COMING HOME fan meeting is the first scheduled stop, with an Asia tour to follow — no cities or dates confirmed yet. His stated goal of pursuing more acting projects alongside music means the comeback era here is genuinely dual-track, not just a music cycle with a drama credit tacked on. (Two mini albums in under two years before enlistment suggests the solo output pace was already picking up.) Fans watching for a third solo release have reason to stay tuned.
