A KTO survey of 3,604 international K-pop fans shows 33.6% struggle to buy concert tickets, with system crashes the leading complaint.

One in three international K-pop fans can't get through the ticket queue. Of 3,604 fans surveyed on ticket purchasing, 33.6% — 1,211 people — said buying tickets is difficult, according to a Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) fandom survey analyzed by National Assembly Culture, Sports and Tourism Committee member Im O-gyeong (Democratic Party, Gwangmyeong, Gyeonggi) and released September 19.
Among fans who had previously visited Korea, the difficulty rate climbed to 36.4%, versus 29.1% for those who hadn't.
Of the 1,211 fans who flagged difficulty, the breakdown was stark:
These aren't casual fans. The average surveyed fan had attended 18.8 concerts. Roughly 42% had been to 11 or more shows. Of 10,955 fans who said they intended to visit Korea or were neutral on the question, 84.6% — 9,272 people — said they want to watch K-pop concerts in Korea.
The economic stakes are real. In 2019, per-capita spending by Korean Wave tourists was estimated at $1,007, with total domestic spending by that group reaching approximately $1.124 billion.
Im O-gyeong was blunt: "We promote Korea through K-POP, yet 1 out of 3 foreigners experience difficulty at the ticket purchase stage." She added that "K-POP's popularity should lead to actual visits to Korea and tourism consumption." The gap between the marketing pitch and the checkout page is the whole problem.
