IVE, ILLIT, and A2O LITE collide in October girl group showdown
IVE's 'Looks Can Kill,' ILLIT's mini album 'Break Even,' and A2O LITE's debut 'Neon' all land within two weeks of each other.

Three releases, two weeks, one very crowded chart
October 26 became a collision date when IVE dropped Looks Can Kill — pre-released as a single on October 19 — and ILLIT put out their fifth mini album, Break Even, on the same day. ILLIT's title track is 체포하겠어, a warning directed at someone whose habitual kindness caused confusion.
Before either landed, rookie group A2O LITE had already moved. Their debut single Neon came out October 13, and 29 hours later it hit number 1 on Melon's Top 100. Lee Soo-man (이수만), key producer at A2O Entertainment, led the project—his return to K-pop after three years away.
ILLIT's chart history sets the stakes
ILLIT isn't walking in empty-handed. Their debut track Magnetic entered the US Billboard Hot 100 at number 91 and climbed to number 6 on the Billboard Global 200. Follow-up NOT CUTE ANYMORE reached number 7 on the Bubbling Under Hot 100, one step below the main chart. That's the baseline IVE and A2O LITE are being measured against.
(The timing is brutal for everyone involved, but that's October for you.)
One industry official framed it this way: "The true victory in this girl group competition depends not on a speed race to plant the flag first, but on how deep and wide a ripple effect they can create and sustain for a long time."
Three groups. Thirteen days. One top spot on Melon.
Cheer the story
