ITZY's Yeji performing through herniated disc diagnosis ahead of 'Motto' comeback

ITZY leader Yeji was diagnosed with a herniated disc in May after visiting a hospital for lower back pain. She's been performing with adjusted choreography since.

Following medical advice to limit movements that strain her lower back, Yeji took the stage at ITZY's third world tour concerts in Japan in May with modified stage movements. She is balancing ongoing treatment with scheduled appearances, performing at a reduced range of choreography.

The timing coincided with ITZY's preparation for the Motto mini album, targeted for a mid-May release. Managing a disc injury through a comeback window is not a small ask for a main dancer.

Yeji, 25, debuted with ITZY on the digital single IT'z Different in February 2019 and serves as the group's leader, main dancer, lead vocalist, and sub-rapper. She stepped out as a solo artist in March 2025 with her first mini album AIR, whose title track spawned an English version single plus performance and band live content. Her studio dance covers — Artist Of The Month and River — along with the Break My Heart Myself MIX & MAX video with fellow member Ryujin have combined for over 100 million views. She has also appeared as temporary fixed MC and special MC on MBC's Show! Music Core.

Yeji continues to meet fans on schedule while her treatment runs in parallel.
