Japanese Actor Murakami Nijiro Referred to Prosecutors Over Girlfriend Assault

Japanese actor Murakami Nijiro has been referred to prosecutors on charges of assaulting his then-girlfriend multiple times at his Shibuya, Tokyo residence in 2024. The victim sustained injuries requiring more than one month of treatment.

Murakami admitted to the charges during police questioning. Born in 1997, he is the son of actor Murakami Jun and debuted in 2014 in the film Shōnen, Shōjo, Soshite Umi (소년, 소녀 그리고 바다), playing the lead role Kaito.

His filmography includes Namiya Zakkaten no Kiseki (나미야 잡화점의 기적) and Futari no Natsu Monogatari (두 번째 여름, 두 번 다시 만날 수 없는 너). He appeared in the drama series Alice in Borderland and the live-action adaptation of Ano Hi Mita Hana (그날 본 꽃의 이름을 우리는 아직 모른다). In 2022, he won Best Supporting Actor at the Japan Academy Prize.

Murakami is set to appear in Strange: Ito Junji's Bizarre Tales That Keep You Up at Night (스트레인지-이토 준지의 밤도 잠들 수 없는 기묘한 이야기), scheduled to premiere in July.
