Oh Young-sil opened up on MBN's 'Altorang' June 28 about begging PDs for roles, her thyroid cancer battle a decade ago, and why she skips breakfast.

Oh Young-sil sat down on MBN's 알토란 on June 28, 2026, and gave viewers a rare look at her home life — and the career hustle that got her here.
She made the jump from announcer to actress out of necessity. "As I got older, I felt a sense of crisis that I couldn't do the announcer job for long, so I challenged acting," she said. For years, she lobbied drama PDs directly: "I begged passing drama PDs to cast me." The break came sideways. The original actress cast as Jung Ha-neul in SBS's 아내의 유혹 dropped out over a fee dispute, and Oh stepped in.
She also disclosed that she battled thyroid cancer ten years ago. She's fully recovered now—healthy enough to obtain insurance under normal terms again.
On the domestic front: her husband leaves for the hospital at 6 AM after a recent move. Preparing breakfast would mean a 5 AM wake-up call. She skips it. (Her husband reports that the hospital cafeteria food is delicious.) At home, the household rule is lukewarm water only. For her two sons, she blanches ham in water before making sandwiches, and tells them: "Mom thinks everything tastes good. When you get older, water tastes the best."
Chef Kim Dae-seok, who is approaching 3 million YouTube subscribers, also appeared on the episode. Denian was there too. Oh Young-sil noted she is a dedicated subscriber of Kim's channel.
