Ok Jin-wook reveals tattooed arm for 'Chamgyoyuk' role Jo In-beom on Netflix

Ok Jin-wook, 29, shared behind-the-scenes details about his role as Jo In-beom — a delinquent student in the electrical department of Goun High-Tech High School — in the Netflix drama Chamgyoyuk.

A fan-account video posted on June 11 captured Ok on his way home from set, where he spoke about episode 2's standout sequence: Na Hwa-jin (Kim Mu-yeol), a supervisor at the Educational Rights Protection Bureau, driving a car with its door removed to discipline Jo In-beom and Park Sung-hwan (Yu Tae-joo). "We all rode in the back of the car," Ok said. "Senior Kim Mu-yeol did the driving himself." On Kim's skills: "He did well. He does so much action." Ok then recalled his own state during filming — "I gained weight that day" — which drew laughs.

Chamgyoyuk centers on the Educational Rights Protection Bureau, created to protect South Korea's education system from students, teachers, and parents who overstep boundaries. The cast skews older than the characters they play. Ok was born in 1997 and is 29. Yu Tae-joo, who plays Park Sung-hwan, was born in 1995 and is 31. Lee Tae-hwan (Jang Gwon-hyeok) and Lee Bong-jun (Jo Gyu-cheol, the main villain) are also 1995-born and 31.

Jang Yo-hoon, born in 1993 and currently 33, plays a 14-year-old juvenile delinquent involved in vehicle theft and drug trafficking. He withdrew from Sungkyunkwan University before enrolling in the Theater Department of Korea National University of Arts, and debuted in 2012 with the stage production Happy Together. "I enrolled in school as an 11th grader, and I ended up playing an 11th grader role," he said. "I will live well from now on."

Director Hong Jong-chan addressed the age gap at a press interview on June 11. "What the director worries about most is casting. You have to do appropriate casting and create an ensemble." He set aside age when evaluating actors and did not intentionally seek older performers. When shaping the juvenile delinquent character, though, he blended in memories of a friend who auditioned during his own high school years.

Chamgyoyuk is currently streaming on Netflix.
