BTS Cleared for Chile's National Stadium After Initial Ban and Fan Protests
Chile's government approved BTS's use of Santiago's National Stadium on July 21, reversing an earlier denial. Three shows are scheduled for October 14, 16, and 17.
Chile's government approved BTS's use of the National Stadium in Santiago on July 21 (local time). Three concerts follow on October 14, 16, and 17.
The reversal didn't come easy. Chile's National Sports Institute (IND) had initially denied the venue rental to protect the stadium's sports infrastructure. Local ARMY chapters protested until the decision flipped.
The government cited concert organizers' "reflected series of technical modifications aimed at protecting the stadium's sports infrastructure." Heavy equipment won't cross the grass during 360-degree stage installation. Production work will use cranes positioned on the running track instead.
Approximately 200,000 attendees are expected across the three dates. BTS will be the first Korean artist to hold a solo concert at the venue.
Santiago is one stop on a South American run tied to the group's new album 아리랑 (Arirang). October also includes Bogotá (Colombia), Lima (Peru), Buenos Aires (Argentina), and São Paulo (Brazil). ARMY in Santiago fought hard for this one—protests into a government reversal is not a small thing.
