Mighty Mouse, Lee Hong-gi lead K-pop's self-remake wave with reworked 2011 hits

Mighty Mouse released the music video for Tok Tok in June 2026. It was a self-remake of the title track from their 2011 second studio album Mighty Fresh. The video climbed to No. 36 on YouTube Korea's weekly popular songs chart for the June 19–25 period.

Vocalist Soya, who sang on the original, returned for the remake. Rapper Dindin was a new addition. Mighty Mouse performed on music broadcast stages with Soya afterward and took part in dance challenges. In March 2026, they'd already remade another 2011 track, Lalalala, featuring BBB Girl's Minyoung—that one entered Melon's Hot 100 chart.

FT Island's Lee Hong-gi and Monday Kiz's Lee Jin-sung released A Person Closer to Tears on June 14, 2026. The song originally appeared on FT Island's 2007 first-album repackage The Refreshment. Lee Hong-gi had appeared as a guest on Monday Kiz's YouTube series Monkey's Footprints and performed the track as an impromptu duet with Lee Jin-sung before the official release.

Music critic Park Hee-ah sees the logic clearly. "Singers have the justification of singing their familiar representative songs with their 'current voice'," she said. "There is also the practical benefit of getting faster responses than new songs." She pointed to another driver: younger listeners discovering an artist through entertainment content, then digging back through their catalog, fueled partly by social media exposure to older K-pop. Known IP, lower risk, built-in nostalgia—the math works.
