Anne Hathaway bares baby bump at premiere — and the internet had opinions

Anne Hathaway showed up to the The End of Oak Street premiere in Burbank, California on the 9th with her pregnant belly fully on display. The comments section did not hold back.

The 43-year-old, who announced her third pregnancy in June, wore a custom sky-blue high-neck top by designer Prabal Gurung: short in front, lengthening toward the back, leaving her bump exposed. Her bottoms were low-rise jeans from American women's brand La Ligne — not maternity wear.

She got ahead of the noise herself. Hathaway posted a behind-the-scenes reel of her red carpet prep on Instagram with the caption: "Fake hair, real bump." A direct response to the "is that even real?" crowd. She then stepped out again for a taping of ABC's Jimmy Kimmel Live! in a silver ruffled top from fashion brand Lein, bump out again.

The look fits a wider pattern. Rihanna set the template in 2022 when she debuted her first pregnancy in fashion-forward, belly-baring outfits and told Vogue, "I have no intention of shopping in the maternity section." She announced her second pregnancy on the Super Bowl stage in 2023 and her third on the Met Gala red carpet in 2025. Model Adriana Lima showed her bump through a cutout dress at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival. Ciara decorated hers with gold leaf at the 2023 The Color Purple premiere. Sienna Miller used a form-fitting look at 2023 Vogue World to announce her pregnancy entirely.

Global fashion platform Lyst reported that maternity wear searches dropped 45% in 2024 versus the prior year. Maternity jeans fell 30%. Maternity dresses fell 53%. The bump reveal as a fashion moment is, at this point, its own genre.
