불후의 명곡 ep. 769: Six acts honor lesser-known independence activists on Liberation Day

KBS 2TV's 불후의 명곡 returns August 15 with episode 769, a Liberation Day special honoring six lesser-known independence activists.

The episode, titled 광복 81주년 무명의 헌신, 불멸의 노래 (81st Anniversary of Liberation – Unnamed Dedication, Immortal Songs), marks 81 years since Korean independence. Fifty-two descendants of independence merit recipients have been invited to serve as the 명곡판정단 (song jury).

Six acts perform, each paired with a specific activist. Musical actor 홍지민 — himself a descendant of independence activist 홍창식, who started his work at 16 — performs Insooni's 아버지 alongside 양준모 in tribute to 홍창식. 서문탁 takes on Kim Soo-chul's 못다 핀 꽃 한송이 for 동풍신. 지선 (loveholic) performs 이 풍진 세월 for 안경신. 한해 and 라포엠 cover 시인과 촌장's 가시나무 for 김용환. 김준수 and 안예은 perform Kim Kwang-seok's 일어나 for 김향화. 임규형 closes with Maya's 나를 외치다 for 유동하.

Pre-show tension already brewing: 안예은 reportedly waved a white flag before taping, saying "경쟁이 안 된다" ("competition is not possible"). 양준모 played Dr. 안중근 in the musical 영웅, which gives his tribute performance tonight an extra edge.
