NewJeans comeback watch: Hae-rin's first magazine cover in 18 months signals group activity is building

Hae-rin is the first NewJeans member to make a visible public move. She appeared on the cover of Marie Claire Korea's September issue, her first magazine cover in approximately one year and six months since February of last year.

Marie Claire announced the shoot via official SNS on August 14. The magazine described it as capturing "Hae-rin's clear and vibrant moment like the beginning of a new season." In a video released alongside the photos, Hae-rin said: "I met with Marie Claire again after a long time and shot the September issue photo shoot."

The cover lands as NewJeans' lineup status remains unsettled. Hae-rin and Hye-in returned to Ador in November of last year; Hani followed in December. Daniel is continuing contract termination and related legal disputes with the agency. Min-ji is in discussions regarding her return, and Ador has not issued any official announcement on that front.

Last month the group marked their 4th anniversary, and a special film featuring Min-ji, Hani, Hae-rin, and Hye-in together was released. Hae-rin, Hye-in, and Hani have also been spotted in Copenhagen, Denmark and the United States. (Four members in a film, three spotted traveling — the math is doing something.)

Ask Ador for specifics and you get the standard holding statement: "We will inform you once the specific music activity plans and methods are confirmed." No date. No format. Nothing else.
