LG Electronics debuts AI IDOL, a real 5-member girl group built to promote its AI Wash Combo appliance

LG Electronics enters the idol business — sort of

AI IDOL (에이아이돌) is a five-member girl group planned and produced by LG Electronics to promote the company's all-in-one washer-dryer, the AI Wash Combo. They are real performers, not virtual avatars.

The five members are leader Lee Yeon (이연), Moa (모아), Sung Hyun (성현), Hee Jae (희재), and Sua (수아). Each member symbolizes a specific product feature: all-in-one large capacity, AI time sensing, AI washing and drying, minimal flat design, and mini wash, respectively.

Teasing started in July. A choreography challenge dropped in August, and Choi Ye-na, Lee Sun-min, and Hyojin Choi all jumped in. By last month, AI Wash (아이워시) had hit No. 1 on Instagram's trending audio chart. The choreography video reached No. 4 on Instagram Reels' popularity ranking.

Music show circuit and wide release

AI IDOL performed on Mnet's M Countdown on September 17 and MBC's Show! Music Core on September 19. They're also booked for ENA's K-POP UP Chart Show on September 29.

AI Wash officially dropped on September 22 across roughly 50 domestic and international music and social platforms, including Melon, Genie Music, FLO, Vibe, Spotify, and Apple Music.

Next month, the track will also be applied as the end-of-cycle notification sound on LG UP appliance washers. YouTube content and magazine interviews are planned as well.

Oh Sung-taek, Senior Managing Director of LG Electronics Korea Marketing Communication, said: "Consumer response and interest have been hotter than expected, so we have decided to expand the scope and duration of activities." He also raised the possibility of offline events down the line.
