UNCHILD's second single stuck in limbo

Five months after debuting, UNCHILD has no release date. HiUp Entertainment's rookie girl group launched in April with We Are UNCHILD, then stalled. The second digital single, TiNG TiNG, was scheduled for the 2nd of last month. On the 24th, the agency announced a postponement citing "internal company circumstances" and promised to share a new schedule once confirmed. Nearly a month later: silence.

No date. No update.

The 10-billion-won ceiling small labels can't reach

The delay reflects a larger industry question: can small and mid-sized agencies still compete? A decade ago, roughly 3 billion won was enough to debut a rookie group and fund early activities. Now the industry standard sits around 10 billion won just to get established.

Music video budgets paint the same picture. Five or six years ago, a standard MV cost 150–200 million won. That's climbed to 400–500 million won recently, with large-scale productions hitting 800 million to over 1 billion won.

One mid-sized agency representative was direct: "The cost of creating and operating a girl group for approximately two years reaches a minimum of approximately 14 billion won, and costs are increasing."

The numbers confirm it. According to 2024 Korean Content Agency figures, large enterprises spend an average of 43.11 billion won annually on music production. Small and medium enterprises average 1.49 billion won. That's roughly a 29-times gap.

RESCENE shows the window is narrow, not closed

RESCENE (리센느) under The Muse Entertainment offers the clearest recent proof that small labels can still break through. The group debuted in 2024 without the immediate buzz large-agency rookies typically get. Momentum built slowly. Their previously released track LOVE ATTACK found renewed attention, and the latest album posted first-week sales above 100,000 copies—a significant jump from debut numbers.

That trajectory is increasingly rare. For UNCHILD, the question now is simpler: when does TiNG TiNG actually come out?
