EXO fan Xiao Wei wins Asian Games gold, tells Kai: "I kept my promise"
Hong Kong wushu athlete Xiao Wei, an EXO fan for 13 years, won women's changquan gold at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games on Sept. 21 — then posted the victory to Kai.
She scored 9.713 and won by 0.003
Xiao Wei (선샤오위), 26, took gold in women's changquan at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games on September 21, scoring 9.713 points at the Aichi Prefecture Budokan. Su Chuwen of Macau, a two-time world champion, came in at 9.710. The gap: 0.003 points. Hong Kong had never won wushu gold at these Games before. Not in 16 years.
She wore a uniform covered in EXO's hexagonal logo. That wasn't random. Xiao Wei has been an EXO-L for 13 years, and she had made Kai a promise: bring home gold.
The promise with Kai
Kai had asked her: "If I make a crown above your head, will you be able to win the gold medal?" She said she'd do her best. On September 21, she posted a video to Instagram.
"Kai, I kept my promise."
She also wrote: "I really won the Asian Games gold medal."
13 years of EXO, one gold medal
Xiao Wei has tied her athletic drive to EXO for years. Watching them perform at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics closing ceremony made her wonder if competing internationally might one day get her close to them. She introduced herself to Baekhyun as a wushu athlete at a fan meeting. The moment he read words she'd written on her light stick at a concert was, she said, "the most special moment of my life."
In August 2026, she posted a photo with EXO members: "I took a life photo after 13 years. When I was young, I saw them and wanted to shine on stage, so I became a wushu athlete. Thanks to them, I was able to move forward." She'd also shared a photo with them on Instagram in July.
