Yesung drops 10th-anniversary album 'Where We Are' with self-directed 12-track set

A decade in, Yesung takes the wheel

Yesung released his second studio album Where We Are on December 6, timed to his 10th debut anniversary. The 12-track set spans modern rock, city pop, ballad, and disco. He self-directed the whole thing—overseeing music selection, creative visuals, styling, and overall planning and production.

He wrote lyrics for 9 of the 12 tracks. On the album cut 숲 (Forest), he also took a composing credit, his most complete songwriting contribution on the record.

'Pedazos' and the day two feelings hit at once

The title track is Pedazos, a dynamic modern rock song. In Spanish, the name means "broken pieces." The song works through the layered emotions that linger after a breakup. Yesung called it "a song that resembles our lives."

How he chose it matters. He described first hearing the track while riding a taxi on a sunny day, certain he'd finally found his title track. In that same moment, he received a call that his mother was unwell. Two completely different emotional states colliding at once. He said that experience made him realize "life is something where multiple emotions must exist simultaneously." Pedazos holds all of it: the sunshine, the excitement, the worry, the fear. (That's a lot to carry into a modern rock song, but the concept earns it.)

When he listens back years from now, he thinks it will be "a song where I can recall 'I was such a person back then.'"

What the A&R team is saying

The A&R manager involved in production described the album as organically structured around a time theme—covering growth and love. All 12 tracks fulfill their respective roles without exception.

Yesung closed out his album commentary with a statement that cuts through any industry-speak: "I want to sing until the last moment of my life."
