Three years since Charlie Park's passing

November 6, 2026. Three years ago on this date, Charlie Park (본명 박영철) died after a stroke. He was 68.

Park was a veteran Korean musician. He started his career in 1979 as a saxophone player on the U.S. 8th Army stage, a common training ground for Korean entertainers of that era. He released the song 카사노바 사랑 under the stage name "Charlie Park." His final studio work was the mini-album 진짜루/빈자리, released in September 2015. In 2007 he stepped into acting with a role in the KBS 2TV drama 사랑해도 괜찮아.

A stroke, rehabilitation, and a public reconciliation

Park suffered a stroke in 2017. He appeared on MBN's 현장르포 특종세상 in 2020 to share updates on his rehabilitation. During that period, his estrangement from son Jinjin was publicly known. Park's own words on the matter carried no bitterness.

"It is largely my fault, so I have no reason to resent my son. I hope he will not worry and live well with his daughter-in-law (류이서)."

When Park died in 2023, Jinjin and his wife 류이서 stood together at the funeral to receive mourners. The estrangement ended, at least, at the last.
