Daecheong Yeogwan II returns to Busan for July encore run at National Busan Gugak Center

Creative gugak play Daecheong Yeogwan II is back at Yejidang, National Busan Gugak Center, July 3–11.

The work follows gugak artists who fled their hometowns during the Korean War, took shelter at an inn in Daecheong-dong, Jung-gu, Busan, and kept traditional art alive from there. The real Daecheong-yeogwan was a documented refuge for those artists during the evacuation period. The National Gugak Center also operated out of temporary Busan quarters at the time.

The production premiered in 2016 and ran through 2019. Last year's revival—six years after the previous run—pulled 92% seat occupancy, bringing cumulative attendance to roughly 4,700.

Lead roles 'Yunja' and 'Ssagaji' are double-cast. Team A features Lee Eun-hye and Lee Hee-jae. Team B has Kim Yun-ji and Jung Yun-hyung. The cast blends gyeonggi minyo, jeongga, and pansori—three distinct traditional vocal styles—so each actor combination produces a noticeably different show. Worth catching both teams if you can.

Weekday performances start at 7:30 PM; Saturday matinees at 3:00 PM. A-class seats run 20,000 won. B-class seats are 10,000 won.
