Hyerim opened up about her 7-year relationship with taekwondo athlete Shin Minchul on a June 17 YouTube appearance alongside fellow Wonder Girls member Sunye.

Wonder Girls' Hyerim said she sometimes wishes she had dated more people before getting married. A rapper. A chef.
The comment came on June 17 during a YouTube video on the channel 노빠꾸탁재훈, titled "Wonder Girls Sunye Hyerim, K-pop pioneers who went from idols to five children between them." Hyerim appeared alongside fellow member Sunye.
Hyerim married former taekwondo athlete Shin Minchul in 2020 after seven years of dating. The two first met at a taekwondo gathering her father organized—he runs a taekwondo academy—and Shin was also doing taekwondo at the time. They now have two sons.
Asked about the relationship, she was candid. The pair broke up and got back together more than once, with brief stints seeing other people in between, though she said there was never any overlap. "I dated my husband for a long time but had no intention of two-timing," she said.
Married at 27, she had at least one mild regret. "I got married at 27, but now I think I wish I had met more diverse people," she said, laughing. "I wonder what it would have been like to date a rapper or a chef. Men who cook well are attractive, and I'm curious about the world of rappers." The room dissolved into laughter.
Sunye, who has three children, also shared how she met her husband through his missionary and relief work in Haiti.
