BLACKPINK's Jennie is dropping 'Less than a Lover' on July 24. She directed it, composed it, wrote it.
July 24. That's when Jennie's next solo single arrives. Less than a Lover is entirely hers—direction, composition, lyrics, everything.
The rollout began July 19 with an Instagram post: Jennie smiling, leaning on an unidentified man's shoulder, his face hidden behind a white heart emoji. The next day came the reveal. Text overlaid the image read "DIRECTED BY JENNIE," "WRITTEN BY JENNIE," "MUSIC BY JENNIE," and "Less than a LOVER Jennie," plus the English line The summer I chose to pause the love story.
She's already been testing the track live. Governors Ball Music Festival in New York on June 7 was first. Then Roskilde Festival in Denmark. At an open-air headline set in Gdynia, Poland, she performed Lock It Down, Heaven, and Less than a Lover alongside songs from her solo album Ruby and various collaborations—roughly one hour total. Instagram stories and onstage messages made clear she wanted to share new music soon.
More festival slots are locked in: Open'er Festival in Poland, 2026 MAD COOL FESTIVAL in Spain, Lollapalooza Chicago, and SUMMER SONIC 2026 in Japan. The single landing before several of those dates is no coincidence.
On the group front, BLACKPINK released mini album 3 DEADLINE as a Korean album on February 27. Jennie joined the group in 2016.
