Kim Jong-kook launches 30th-anniversary project album, Roy Kim on first single

Kim Jong-kook is launching a 30th-debut-anniversary project album. Roy Kim appears on the first digital single.

He announced it on the July 29 broadcast of tvN's You Quiz on the Block, explaining he is "receiving songs from artists who are good at music." The project unfolds as a series of digital singles, each one filtered through a different creator's musical sensibility and Kim Jong-kook's voice, before everything becomes a single physical album.

The first single gets its live premiere at Kim Jong-kook 30th Anniversary Concert: The Originals — Seoul Encore, happening August 15 and 16 at Blue Square Woori WON Banking Hall in Seoul. Last year's 30th-anniversary concert sold out completely. Kim Jong-kook stayed characteristically understated about the encore: "Since I appeared on 'You Quiz', it will sell out right away."

He promised the setlist would be all hits. He also told people to wear light clothes. The show has roughly 20 minutes of Turbo medley called "aerobic time," where the audience runs and sings along. (Regulars apparently say there's no time to use the bathroom, which makes sense for a 30-year catalog.)
