Bayern Munich land in Jeju for Feb. 4 friendly, Kim Min-jae needs 5 extra bodyguards

Bayern Munich landed at Jeju International Airport on February 2nd, marking their first Korea visit in two years. Manager Vincent Kompany's squad will take on Jeju SK on February 4th at 8 PM at Jeju World Cup Stadium under the 'R&G Partnership' connecting Jeju, Bayern, and MLS club LAFC.

The 26-player traveling squad includes Kim Min-jae, captain Manuel Neuer, Jonathan Tah, Josip Stanišić, Joshua Kimmich, Luis Díaz, and Konrad Laimer. Several notable absences: Harry Kane, Michaël Olise, and Dayot Upamecano are on post-World Cup vacation following the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North and Central America. Summer signing Ismaël Saïbari, a Moroccan striker who joined for a reported €50 million (approx. ₩83 billion), remained in Germany nursing an injury. Serge Gnabry and Jamal Musiala are both in rehabilitation.

Kim Min-jae is the draw here. Bayern Marketing Director Ruben Casper didn't mince words: "Kim Min-jae is a Korean hero." The club had to deploy five additional security personnel just to let him move around the island. Kim led Napoli to the Serie A title in 2023 before joining Bayern. In the 2025-26 season, he appeared in 34 Bundesliga matches and 14 UEFA Champions League matches, helping Bayern to the league title, DFB-Pokal win, and Champions League semi-final run.

Casper used the Korea visit to push a bigger idea about German football's global footprint: "I would be very happy if more Bundesliga clubs visit overseas — this is absolutely necessary."

Bayern head to Hong Kong next to continue their Asia tour.
