Lee Bo-ram on new single's delayed release and high-note recording battle

Lee Bo-ram dropped solo single 빛의 반대편에서 on August 2. The story behind it is messier than the final track lets on.

She stopped by MBC FM4U's 정오의 희망곡 김신영입니다 on August 4 and laid out what happened. The song was supposed to come out in early January, but C.Y.A's own album cycle forced a reschedule. JeA of Brown Eyed Girls and SOMERZ of Bubble Sisters wrote it. The vocal range was brutal—so demanding that Lee Bo-ram wanted to drop it down a key during practice. Both composers had the same response: "absolutely don't lower it." She recorded in the original key.

DJ Kim Shin-young called her "a voice of faith, an unwavering steel voice." After the live performance, she said it was "neither AR nor AI." HYNN, who was there, added that hearing the audio was good, but knowing the autobiographical story behind it made the song hit harder.

Lee Bo-ram tied the lyrics to a rough stretch that came after C.Y.A's best years. One line stuck with her especially—it felt like "continuing to move toward the light even during that difficult period." She's now executive director at C.Y.A Entertainment, so the personal and professional sides of this are tangled together.
