Hoshi breaks the news on Weverse

Seventeen's Hoshi posted on Weverse on September 12 with an update for fans. "This may be surprising news, so I'm writing carefully," he began. During Army Ground Forces Performance Team practice, he sustained a complete anterior cruciate ligament tear. "I injured my knee during ground forces performance team practice and received a detailed examination, and I was diagnosed with a complete anterior cruciate ligament tear," he wrote.

What he's missing

Two events are now off the table. The Taekwondo Demonstration Team event won't have him. Neither will the 2026 Ground Forces Festival, scheduled for October 1–5 at Gyeryongdae airfield in South Chungcheong Province.

"These were stages I was really looking forward to and preparing hard for, so I'm very disappointed and sorry to the CARATs who were waiting," he said. He asked fans to support the Taekwondo Demonstration Team and the Ground Forces Performance Team instead, where fellow Seventeen member Woozi will still perform.

Recovery timeline and service background

ACL reconstruction typically demands six months to over a year of rehabilitation. Joint range-of-motion recovery and thigh-muscle strengthening take time. Hoshi's originally scheduled discharge is March 15 next year—a date now shadowed by a long rehab window.

He enlisted as an active-duty Army soldier on September 16 last year and moved to the newly formed Army Taekwondo Demonstration Unit in January. He performed at the 107th March 1st Independence Movement cultural event and the National Museum of Korea Performing Arts Festival during his service. In April he donated 10 million won for military personnel welfare.

Hoshi debuted with Seventeen in 2015 and leads the group's Performance Unit as its main dancer. His Weverse post ended simply: "I will receive good treatment and focus on recovery to return in good health soon. Please don't worry too much."
