Ahn Hyo-seop leads JTBC cooking competition drama 'Final Table', premiering Oct. 24
Director-writer Kim Do-hoon's 'Final Table' hits JTBC on October 24 at 10:40 PM, with Disney+ and Amazon Prime Video handling streaming.

Ahn Hyo-seop steps into the kitchen
JTBC's Final Table premieres October 24 at 10:40 PM, streaming on Disney+ in Korea and Amazon Prime Video internationally. Ahn Hyo-seop plays Kang Han, a chef who's worked at restaurants across the globe and now finds himself running Familia, a restaurant on the verge of closing.
The setup: "The Table: K Chef 2026," a competition that gathers Korean chefs from around the world to fight for the top spot. Kang Han enters as Familia's head chef. His past isn't clean. A child's voice crying out for a father echoes from inside a burning house.
Jang Ryul is Cha Woo-jin, a rival chef who grabs Kang Han by the collar and vows not to let him off easily. Hong Hwa-yeon plays Choi Song-i, Familia's hall manager, moved by Kang Han's cooking. Jung Yu-jin rounds out the four leads.
(Ahn Hyo-seop's previous role as Seo Woo-jin in SBS's Romantic Doctor, Teacher Kim 2 closed at a 27.1% nationwide viewership rating. He also voiced Jin-woo in Netflix animated film K-pop Demon Hunters.)
"Cooking magicians, not cooks"
Kim Do-hoon wrote and directed the series — a dual credit that shaped its unusual structure. He called it "entertainment within drama," deliberately blurring the line between scripted series and cooking competition format. "I thought that if we blur the boundaries between drama and entertainment, wouldn't we get a different result?" he said.
His brief to the chef and art teams was clear: "The cooking in this drama is not cooking that currently exists but cooking that will exist in the future. The chefs are not cooks but cooking magicians." He pushed the concept and completeness of the food "to the point of questioning whether it is realistically possible."
On what the show is actually about, Kim was direct: "The beginning is beautiful and fascinating cooking, the end is a close-up of the protagonists." A drama about family relationships, connections between people, and new beginnings in life — told through food.
All four actors drilled their cooking skills and talked through their characters extensively, despite a short preparation window. By the midpoint of filming, Kim said, "they already looked like chefs."
Final Table airs Saturdays on JTBC starting October 24.
