Huh Ga-yun shares Bali beach selfie, reflecting on new places and a career that keeps expanding

"When I go to a new place, I get excited"

Huh Ga-yun posted a close-up beach selfie on October 18 against a rocky shoreline, wearing a purple off-shoulder swimsuit. The caption — 새로운 곳에 가면 신나 — translates roughly as "When I go to a new place, I get excited." It's an apt description of her life right now.

The photo came from Bali, where she's been settled long enough that a 2024 YouTube talk series spent time addressing what she called misunderstandings about her retirement. She is not retired.

From 4minute to essays to lecture stages

Huh Ga-yun debuted as main vocalist of girl group 4minute, breaking through with the digital single Hot Issue. She ran unit activities as part of 2YOON. One track from 4minute's catalog crossed 100 million views—notable for a group that wasn't under any of Korea's three major agencies.

She had a real variety presence too. On Top Gear Korea Season 2, she clocked 2 minutes 00.15 seconds in the racing car segment, ranking first among all female cast members across Seasons 1 through 3. She appeared on Get It Beauty 2013 with 4minute member Nam Ji-hyun and hosted Style Log 2014.

In 2025, she published the essay 가장 낯선 바다에서 가장 나다워졌다 (I became most myself in the most unfamiliar sea), marking her official debut as an author. That January, a Sebasi Lecture appearance had her walking through her childhood dream of becoming a singer, her trainee years, the pressure she carried offstage, and how her direction shifted after all of it. (The essay and the lecture are basically saying the same thing.)

She also guest-starred on a spicy food content series in 2025. Apparently that's the range now.
