Kim Da-hyun drops 24 KakaoTalk emoticons, wraps busy October with BIFF MC duties
The 16-year-old trot singer launched a 24-piece KakaoTalk emoticon set on Sept. 9, weeks after releasing her 4th full-length album '이모티콘' in August.
24 emoticons, one album, one film festival
Kim Da-hyun (김다현), 16, dropped a 24-piece KakaoTalk emoticon set on September 9 to accompany her fourth full-length album 이모티콘 from August. Her message was brief: "Kim Da-hyun's KakaoTalk emoticons have been released. Please love them a lot."
The album holds five tracks. 나무 아래서 serves as the title track, alongside 바다야, 날씨가 이상해, 티났니?, and 설렘. Kim Da-hyun wrote and composed several of them. She also released an original song, 광양에서 만난 사랑, which draws from her grandparents' real love story.
October brought her to the Busan International Film Festival opening ceremony as MC, where she walked the red carpet.
From duet debut to solo songwriter
Kim Da-hyun debuted in 2019 with her sister Kim Do-hyun (김도현) on the single album 청학동 국악자매 - 경사났네. Solo work followed the next year with 꽃처녀.
Competition placements came fast. She placed runner-up on MBN's 보이스트롯, third place (the "미(美)" rank) on TV CHOSUN's 내일은 미스트롯2, third on MBN's 현역가왕, and MVP at the Korea-Japan trot competition 한일가왕전. She also formed the duet group Lucky팡팡 with Japanese singer Sumida Aiko (스미다 아이코).
Beyond the stage, her record speaks for itself. She visited flood-damaged Hwagae Market in 2020 with relief supplies. In 2021 she donated her entire prize from 선한트롯 가왕전 to the Korean Pediatric Cancer Foundation. She gave 2 million won to Gyeongnam Province and appeared in a public service ad with her father in 2023.
(Her official fan cafe is named 얼씨구다현, and her official color has cycled through lavender and cherry blossom pink before landing on dark pink.)
