Daejeon's first lake park opens—trails, night lighting, and pet zones
Gapcheon Ecological Lake Park opened in late September 2025 as Daejeon's first dedicated lake park, straddling the border between Seo-gu and Yuseong-gu. If you're routing a day trip outside Seoul, this is worth the detour: the park spans 430,000 square meters with a continuous trail network designed for easy walking, rest areas dotted throughout, and lake views that shift as you move through the grounds.

The park is built for different moods. During the day, there's an observatory for views, a children's playground, water park facilities, and exercise areas scattered across the grounds. If you're traveling with a pet, there's a dedicated rest area. The real draw for evening visitors is the landscape lighting—the park transforms after dark with atmospheric illumination that reframes the whole space.

Parking is available on-site, and the park is open 24 hours year-round, so you can time your visit around whatever else you're doing in Daejeon. Whether you want a morning walk, an afternoon with kids, or a lit-up evening stroll, the infrastructure is there to support it without feeling rushed.
