Ben opens up about divorce 6 months after giving birth: "I looked three years ahead"

Singer Ben married a businessman in 2021 and announced her divorce in 2024, three years into the marriage and six months after giving birth to her daughter Lia.

On June 24, she appeared as a guest on the YouTube channel 형수는 케이윌 in a video titled "Will my appearance look too funny? A single mother's real parenting." She was candid about the timeline: "I essentially lived carrying this for 5 years. I tried enduring, got angry, and tried many different things. Then a child was born and I thought she came to save me — but even in that moment, an accident happened."

The deciding factor was a mental projection forward. "I looked ahead. I imagined what I would look like when my daughter turned six years old in three years, and it seemed like I would have the same worries then as I do now." She also admitted the fear of public perception: she was terrified her life as a single mother after giving birth might look ridiculous, to the point her body trembled.

On the divorce itself: "Divorce was not a mistake but a necessary choice for me to live well." She addressed others in similar situations directly, saying she hoped they would not live with a guilty conscience.

Now raising Lia alone, Ben said the real challenge isn't parenting. "The difficulty is not raising the child — it's that raising a child alone is a bit heavy." She added that she is feeling firsthand how hard the role of head of household is, and that there is no time to be tired.

After becoming single again, she made one shift: stopped meeting friends. She had thought venting over drinks was releasing emotion, but realized it was accumulating instead. (She also noted, somewhat dryly, that she used to be deeply F-personality but became T, and her quality of life improved.)

"I must be happy for my child to be happy," she said. "Because of her, I live."
