PSY's 'Gangnam Style' is closing in on 6 billion YouTube views—14 years after its July 2012 release. The artist hinted at marking the milestone with a live celebration at his Uijeongbu 흠뻑쇼 stage.

Gangnam Style is about to hit 6 billion YouTube views. PSY confirmed the milestone is imminent and hinted at a celebration tied to his ongoing 흠뻑쇼 outdoor concert series.
"Maybe in Uijeongbu... we'll celebrate 6 billion views!!" PSY wrote. "About to have 6 billion views!!" The Uijeongbu stop of 흠뻑쇼 is where he plans to mark the moment with fans.
The MV dropped on July 15, 2012. That's 14 years online. It was the first single video on YouTube to cross 1 billion views and peaked at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100. PSY's official YouTube channel now sits at nearly tens of millions of subscribers, with multiple videos logged at over 1 billion, 800 million, and 500 million views respectively.
The 6-billion push isn't happening in a vacuum. At the 2026 North/Central America World Cup group stage match between Korea and Mexico (held June 18 local time at Guadalajara Stadium), fans from both countries planned a large-scale horse-dance flash mob to Gangnam Style during halftime. Spanish-language outlet Infobae reported on the flash mob preparations as early as June 16 local time. JTBC and KBC broadcast the match live.
The Korea-Mexico fan connection traces back to the 2018 Russia World Cup, when Korea beat defending champion Germany 2-0 in the final group stage match, inadvertently helping Mexico advance to the Round of 16 despite their loss to Sweden. Mexican fans gathered outside the Korean Embassy in Mexico City to celebrate. A local Mexican company sent beer to a Kia Motors factory in Korea as a thank-you. The phrase "brother nations" stuck.
PSY (Park Jae-sang, 48) debuted in 2001 with his first album Psy From The Psycho World! and scored early music-show wins with "새" (Bird). His ninth studio album 싸다9, released in 2022, produced title track "That That," which took multiple music-broadcast #1 spots. "GENTLEMAN" also logged hundreds of millions of views. His catalog includes "챔피언," "연예인," "Right Now," "DADDY," and "I LUV IT," among others. He runs his own agency, P NATION, and appeared on You Quiz on the Block in May 2024. At this rate, 6 billion is less a question of if and more a question of which city gets the party.
