Christopher Nolan's 'Odyssey' opens August 5 with Matt Damon, Zendaya, Tom Holland

Christopher Nolan's Odyssey opens August 5. The film runs 172 minutes and adapts Homer's epic poem for the big screen. Rated 15+.

Matt Damon plays Odysseus, the hero who spent ten years leading the Trojan War to victory. Now he must fight through storms, monsters, and divine trials to reach his homeland of Ithaca. Charlize Theron is Calypso, the sea goddess. Anne Hathaway plays Queen Penelope. Tom Holland is their son Telemachus.

Nolan splits the story across two threads. One follows Odysseus and Calypso. The other tracks Telemachus searching for his father. They unfold in separate spaces before converging. Robert Pattinson plays Antinous, a suitor of Ithaca. Samantha Morton is the sorceress Circe. Zendaya takes on Athena, goddess of wisdom. Lupita Nyong'o plays Helena, queen of Sparta.

Tom Holland has back-to-back releases. He appears in Spider-Man: Brand New Day first, then returns to theaters with Odyssey one week later. (That's a tight turnaround even by summer blockbuster standards.)
