Kim Ki-tae announces new single 'Namugabang' dropping August 26
The Singer Again Season 2 winner spent 20 years in obscurity. Now he's releasing a song inspired by chef Lee Yeon-bok's life.
Kim Ki-tae drops 나무가방 (Namugabang) on August 26 across major online music platforms.
The song emerged from his connection with celebrity chef Lee Yeon-bok. Its lyrics follow Lee's autobiographical arc—hardship to where he stands now—but the heart of it is Kim's own. He spent roughly 20 years in obscurity before his breakthrough, paying for his own stage time and working part-time and delivery jobs to get there. "Chef Lee Yeon-bok's story of hardship and adversity deeply resonates with my emotions from my long obscure period," he said, "so I really wanted to sing this song."
He announced the release on August 13 as a guest on MBC Standard FM's 여성시대 양희은, 김일중입니다. (Surprise radio drops are very on-brand for him at this point.)
The 2022 JTBC Singer Again Season 2 winner is signed to JMG (Double X Entertainment). This year he's kept the releases coming: 별다를 거 없어, 만취, the remake 사랑한 후에, 서약, and 광안리에서. 나무가방 continues the streak. His goal is simple—"a song that comforts the precious hearts of all people who work steadily toward their dreams from the bottom."
