Miwan Sonyeon debuts as Abyss Company's first virtual idol group

Miwan Sonyeon (미완소년) has debuted. The five-member virtual boy group from Abyss Company consists of Mahajin, Naiseon, An Seokwoo, Wonjuyul, and Im On.

Abyss Company also represents Sunmi and BamBam. The virtual idol space has exploded—more than eight virtual idol groups debuted in South Korea within roughly one year, and Miwan Sonyeon marks the agency's entry into it.

Before their official debut, the group released animated shorts for each member's backstory. Their debut showcase streamed online with solo performances and real-time fan interaction through comments.

Oh Kyung-seon, head of production at Bridge Entertainment, sees "expandability" as the format's core strength. "Virtual idols are created by considering character, music, and stage activities from the beginning," she said, "so one team can be developed into various content such as animation, webtoons, games, and character merchandise."

She cautioned that the industry is moving past its early stage into a full-fledged one. Technology alone won't sustain fan interest long-term. Character individuality, music, and member relationships need steady development to build lasting support.

Skinz member Kwon Irang (권이랑) performed an a cappella rap in a broadcast audition program preliminary round.

The August issue of Sisawonjeongdae (시사원정대) covers the debut stories of Miwan Sonyeon, Skinz, Be the Hood, Girls One, Airize, O-Wis, Mankeum Boys, and Nalssie-ui Idol.
