(G)I-DLE's Jeon So-yeon reveals solo song '퇴사할게여' — her first in 5 years — on Radio Star

Jeon So-yeon's first solo in five years

(G)I-DLE's Jeon So-yeon is back with solo music. 퇴사할게여 — her first solo release in five years — gets its first proper introduction on MBC Radio Star, airing Wednesday, September 9 at 10:30 PM in a special episode titled '감이 차오른다~ 가자! 아티스트' alongside guests Kim Chang-ok, Jang Ki-ha, and Swings.

The song takes the universal urge to quit your job and plays it for laughs. Not an actual resignation letter. Just that feeling everyone's had at least once. Jeon So-yeon spent years folding various overseas band styles into her music. This time she wanted something different: her own version of a Korean band sound. She personally reached out to senior musicians to get clearance for the musical homages she wanted to make.

"아니야, 이게 맞아" — how her producing changed

Jeon So-yeon's reputation as a hands-on producer is well-documented. A video of her directing (G)I-DLE's recording sessions crossed 11 million views. On the show she explains exactly what that process looks like: she tracks members' facial expressions, breathing patterns, and even how much water they're drinking — not just pitch and rhythm.

Early in (G)I-DLE's run, if she was convinced she had the right direction, members' pushback didn't move her much.

"아니야, 이게 맞아," she says she would tell members who disagreed — "No, this is right."

She acknowledges that approach has shifted. She now actively takes members' input on board.

The episode puts her directing skills to an immediate test. Kim Gu-ra, Jang Ki-ha, and Swings all attempt (G)I-DLE's signature track 퀸카 in the studio, and Jeon So-yeon directs them on the spot.

Vegetables, temple food, and a dis-rap

Jeon So-yeon recounts a recent temple stay that hit an unexpected wall — temple food. She hates vegetables, and 절밥 is mostly vegetables. The episode ends with her performing 야채 싫어 송, a dis-rap she wrote about exactly that.
