Mark Lee drops 'My Friend,' first release from his creative company Upper Room

Mark Lee dropped My Friend on September 10—the first release from Upper Room, the creative company he founded. He wrote, composed, and arranged it himself.

First out of Upper Room

My Friend is a medium-tempo pop song built around a melancholic guitar loop. The lyrics sit at the end of summer, turning over the question of what the greatest love really looks like, then push toward a new beginning once that season closes.

The music video strips everything back. No CG. No artificial effects. Just music, the person, and the space around them. Gus Black directed it. Black won at the MTV VMAs last year for his work on American singer-songwriter sombr's video, and he brings the same stripped-back visual sensibility here to match the song's understated tone.

Fan infrastructure already moving

A day before the release, on September 9, Mark opened a Weverse membership and launched MARK's Voice Mailbox, a content format where fans can leave messages in their own voices. The voicemail angle works for a song this personal. On the Laylo platform, he pulled 42,392 participants within one hour of opening it.

For a first solo move under his own company banner, My Friend sets a clear creative direction: self-written, visually minimal, and built for direct fan connection from day one.
