Yoo Jae-suk sees himself in romance-comic style — and nearly doesn't recognize it

The September 9 episode of tvN's You Quiz on the Block featured Min Aeni, an 85-year-old first-generation romance comic artist. The real moment came when she unveiled a portrait of host Yoo Jae-suk that left him visibly stunned.

Min Aeni has been drawing K-pop idols in her signature romance-comic style. BTS members RM, V, and Jungkook. RIIZE's Won Yi and Minami. Stray Kids' Felix. Earlier work on BLACKPINK too. Her daughter pushed her to start posting online after print comics dried up in Korea.

"My daughter said, 'Mom, instead of being idle, draw pictures on the channel.' I asked what I should draw, and she said, 'There are famous K-pop people these days. Try drawing them.' So I drew them."

BTS Jimin changed everything. "The third time I drew BTS Jimin, 150 comments came in from abroad," Min Aeni said. After that, she stopped going out. Skipped shopping. Poured everything into drawing.

Watching the idol portraits, Yoo Jae-suk asked, "How do you draw so well? It seems somewhat alive. I wish I could look like this." Then the complaint: "Artist, why didn't you draw my picture?"

She had. The first reveal got a confused "Is this me?" followed by, "The atmosphere is a bit different. The atmosphere is different even in the drawing." A second romance-comic portrait appeared, and everything shifted. "I really like it. If I had KakaoTalk, this would be my KakaoTalk profile."
