JB on 'Honeydew' recording: "I tried to remove the sharp tone and preserve the soft, fluffy feeling"
JB sat down with MBC FM4U's '친친' to break down the recording struggles behind 'Honeydew,' the lead track from his new single 'Chptr. 1.'

JB breaks down the 'Honeydew' recording grind
JB stopped by MBC FM4U's 제로베이스원의 친한친구 on October 27 to talk through Honeydew, the track on his new single Chptr. 1. The recording process dragged on.
"I tried to keep the rhythm a bit tighter than usual," he said. "When recording, a sharp tone comes out, but I tried to remove that as much as possible and preserve the soft, fluffy feeling. That's why the recording took a very long time."
The genre choice also came up. JB's reputation sits squarely in R&B, but he pushed back on the idea that he's locked in.
"The range of music I listen to is not limited to R&B alone. I had the thought to try various songs."
He was quick to clarify that R&B is still the foundation. This isn't a pivot. "The foundation I think about and the music I want to do is R&B," he said, adding that Honeydew was picked because "the performance was well visualized and seemed like it would turn out great."
When the hosts pushed further and asked if he wants to master every genre, JB shut that down. "No. I can't master them all. I won't be able to master all of R&B either, so how could I master all genres? I just want to make good songs."
Where 'Chptr. 1' fits in the run
Chptr. 1 is JB's third single, following Switch It Up and 흔들의자. It marks the opening chapter of a new single series. His third mini album TR.EE dropped in June. He also wrapped a global tour, tape: roots, across 11 cities—5 in Asia and 6 in the United States.
(The single series framing suggests more chapters are coming, though JB didn't confirm specifics on air.)
