Kang So-ra eyes Chinese martial arts drama: "I should pack my bags, like Choo Ja-hyun"

Kang So-ra's martial arts YouTube video hits 2.9M views

Kang So-ra appeared on tvN's You Quiz on the Block on October 21. Her YouTube martial arts introduction lecture had just surpassed 2.9 million views.

MC Yoo Jae-seok brought up the numbers directly. Her regular daily vlogs pulled around 100,000 views before the martial arts video blew past 2 million. "Did you know it would blow up like this?" he asked.

She did not. "I thought martial arts isn't a mainstream genre, so not many people would watch it," she said. "I expected 50,000 to 60,000 views." Her subscriber base is almost entirely women. She made the video hoping female viewers would try the genre alongside romance content. What showed up instead was mostly existing martial arts enthusiasts. "I was taken aback that only existing martial arts masters came."

Her agency wants fashion content. She wants wire work.

The tension between her YouTube direction and what her management has in mind came up fast. "The content our company wants is fashion," she said. "But martial arts is unpredictable. You can't tell what kind of tree it will become."

Her husband found the You Quiz appearance itself amusing. She relayed his reaction: "Congratulations on entering 'You Quiz' with your abilities."

When the conversation turned to a Chinese drama casting — the path taken by senior actor Choo Ja-hyun — Kang So-ra didn't hesitate. "Then I should pack my bags. Like senior Choo Ja-hyun! I hope I can get wires attached soon."
