Kim Hyun-joong attends play, preps 20th debut anniversary world tour and new album

Kim Hyun-joong caught a performance of 너를 들고간다 on October 10 and posted about it the same day. He didn't hold back:

"After a long time watching a play, I cried a lot... I should treat the people I love well. If you have forgotten the depth of love and friendship in your busy life, it would be good to watch the play '너를 들고간다' once. Please love it a lot."

The 1986-born artist is in the thick of his 20th debut anniversary. A world tour, small-scale concerts, and new album work are all happening at once. His fanclub, Henecia, has been tracking every move.

From SS501 leader to solo chart-topper

Kim Hyun-joong first surfaced through the reality program M! PICK in March 2005, then debuted officially as leader of idol group SS501 with 허영생 (Heo Young-saeng), 김규종 (Kim Kyu-jong), 박정민 (Park Jung-min), and 김형준 (Kim Hyung-jun).

His solo career had teeth. In 2011, Break Down hit No. 1 on M! Countdown for two straight weeks. It matched that run on Music Bank and landed him the top spot in Korean solo artist album sales that year. Japan came next. His 2012 single HEAT debuted at No. 1 there with overwhelming sales margins. A later Japanese single, re : wind (2017), climbed to No. 1 on the Oricon daily chart and No. 3 on the weekly.

A career that spans drama, film, and animation

Music wasn't the only lane. Kim Hyun-joong starred in the drama 꽃보다 남자, played 강동석 in the independent film 장농, and voiced Max in the animation 파이 스토리. He was also a virtual couple with 황보 (Hwangbo) on 우리 결혼했어요 and held a fixed spot on 일요일이 좋다 - 맨발의 친구들.

His last album, My sun (마이 선), dropped in February 2023. Now the 20th anniversary is in full swing—world tour, intimate shows, new recordings all moving at the same time.
