Maronie's Kim Jung-eun divorces after ~20 years, sets November comeback with self-penned single
Kim Jung-eun, best known for 1990s group Maronie, finalized a consensual divorce after roughly 20 years of marriage. She's releasing the self-written track 'Mom Was Beautiful' in November.
Divorce confirmed, comeback on the calendar
Kim Jung-eun finalized a consensual divorce from her husband, musician Choi, who is two years her senior. The marriage lasted approximately 20 years (one outlet reported 22). Her agency announced it on October 22, 2026.
Personality differences led to the split. The couple completed the court-mandated reflection period before finalizing everything. Kim has custody of their son, born in 2011.
Her agency said: "The two decided to remain on good terms, supporting each other's future through amicable agreement."
Another statement acknowledged the timing: "We apologize for causing concern to fans with personal matters ahead of her comeback, and hope for warm support as she starts anew."
From 'Cocktail Love' to a long hiatus
Kim debuted with Maronie in 1994, the same year "Cocktail Love" (칵테일 사랑) became a hit. She released "Propose" (프로포즈) and "I Love You" (널 사랑해) in 1995. Then came a prolonged hiatus, partly due to vocal cord nodules. She recently appeared on KBS1's Back to the Music (백투더뮤직) before her return.
November release: 'Mom Was Beautiful'
Kim Jung-eun will release Mom Was Beautiful (엄마는 예뻤다) in November 2026. She wrote the lyrics herself.
