K-pop's next battleground: fandom data and 'Fandom Intelligence'

The 30% that moves everything

K-pop's core fandom—roughly 30% of any given artist's total fanbase—generates 64% of all consumption. Labels, platforms, and investors are now building strategy around this single figure.

The term gaining traction is "Fandom Intelligence": understanding not just fandom size, but its internal structure, behavioral patterns, spending tendencies, and capacity for viral spread. The 2026 MWM Conference at Cube Convention Center in Sangam, Seoul last month surfaced two critical gaps: the industry lacks specialist investment reviewers and data-based valuation systems.

Platforms stacking data

The race to own fandom intelligence is live. Weverse posted 14.43 million monthly active users as of Q2 2026. Kakao Entertainment's Berriz reached users in 202 countries—80% international—within one year of launch, with 60 million cumulative support actions and 13 million likes. BeMyFriends' b.stage operates across approximately 230 countries.

In May, BIGC acquired Blip, a fan-activity platform, and K-pop Radar, an SNS analytics service, from SpaceOdity. The deal secured more than 1.3 billion pieces of global fandom data. That's where the real competition is headed.

Short-form as the chart engine

84% of tracks that entered Billboard's Global 200 in 2024 had already gone viral on short-form platforms like TikTok before charting. Scale alone doesn't predict that. Behavioral data does.
