Lee Jun-young's '95 Seoul Song Festival' grand prize money doubles as 'Nol-myeon Mwohani?' holds 2nd prelims
MBC's 'Nol-myeon Mwohani?' aired the '95 Seoul Song Festival's 2nd preliminary round on Oct. 17. Prize money doubled. A reserve-round comeback stole the show.

Lee Jun-young's grand prize win sets the bar — and the prize money
The Oct. 17 episode of MBC's Nol-myeon Mwohani? ran the '95 Seoul Song Festival's 2nd preliminary round alongside a reserve meeting for 1st-round hold decisions. Before the new competition got underway, the show revisited Lee Jun-young and Lee Juck sharing the grand prize at the '80 Seoul Song Festival'. Lee Jun-young also took the popularity award for his performance of Park Nam-jung's Neol Geurimyeon ("If I Draw You").
Yoo Jae-suk recalled that Lee Jun-young had been reluctant when the team suggested the Park Nam-jung track. "Jun-young was actually hesitant when we suggested Park Nam-jung's song. But he won the grand prize with it," Yoo said, before adding with characteristic self-satisfaction, "I created it. I raised Jun-young." He also noted that Lee Jun-young is currently serving in the military, asking the room, "Do you know how much Jun-young dances now that he's in the military?"
Haha said he hopes "another new person like Lee Jun-young appears" from the '95 edition, then turned the joke on the absent winner: "Shouldn't he come greet us? When he's on leave. Didn't I make things favorable for him?"
Prize money, a 50-something veteran, and a passing grade
For the '95 festival, prize money was set with 1990s inflation in mind. The grand prize lands at 2 million won—double the '80 festival's figure. Gold came to 1 million won. Silver was 700,000 won. Bronze hit 500,000 won.
The reserve meeting produced the episode's most emotional moment. A participant going by the nickname "Shawshank Redemption" received a hold judgment in the 1st preliminary round and returned for another shot at the main round. Over 50 years old, the contestant has competed on both Great Birth and Superstar K—a self-described audition veteran. He performed Kim Kwang-seok's Saranghaesjiman ("I Loved You"), then added Kim Gun-mo's Jalmosdoen Mannam ("Wrong Meeting") for good measure. (The two-song push said everything about how badly he wanted it.) He told the panel his biggest reason for competing: his mother, who struggles to see and hear, has a particular love for songs. Yoo Jae-suk and Haha gave him a passing judgment.
