AI-generated track hits Melon Top 3 — a first for South Korea's major charts
머무르's '꿈꾸던 어른이 되었나요?', made with SUNO by virtual artist project Glorywave, hit #3 on Melon Top 100 on Nov. 6 — first AI-utilized track in the domestic top 5.

An AI track just cracked Melon's top 3
머무르's 꿈꿈꾸던 어른이 되었나요? landed at No. 3 on the Melon Top 100 on November 6, 2026. First AI-utilized track ever to break into South Korea's top 5.
The song came out in June. 머무르 isn't a real singer. It's a virtual artist project built by producing team 글로리웨이브 (Glorywave) using the generative music AI service SUNO. Glorywave has production credits on 황치열's 왜 이제와서야 and 길구봉구's 내일 이별 — this isn't a bedroom experiment. It's a professional production outfit testing new tools in public.
조선힙합 is also in the mix
Glorywave isn't the only one moving. Music creator 조선힙합 released 마음의 숲 in May, which peaked at No. 89 on the Melon Top 100 and No. 99 on the daily chart. A second track, 살다보니, also charted. Lower than 머무르's numbers, but the pattern holds: AI-assisted music finding real listeners.
At least one agency official confirmed AI is already embedded in standard album prep. "Previously, guide vocalists recorded demo songs, but now we train the singer's voice and create it with AI," they said. The process lets teams check song-artist fit early and "significantly reduce work time."
The industry hasn't caught up yet
Chart numbers are moving faster than the rulebook. The Korean Music Copyright Association (음저협) and five other industry groups are pursuing detection programs to identify AI-generated and AI-utilized music. 음저협 had previously announced a plan to allow trust registration for AI-utilized music where human creative contribution was substantial, then pulled it back after criticism that broader social consensus was needed first.
A music industry official laid out the unresolved pile: "AI usage determination, creative contribution distinction, and copyright fee distribution — there are still many issues to resolve."
The same official sees upside if those issues get sorted. "If these problems are resolved, I think more AI-utilized music will come out," they said. "If artists with excellent composition skills within groups use AI to create different music, I think another K-pop ecosystem will be built."
Three charting AI tracks in 2026. No regulatory framework in place. The gap between those two facts is where the industry argument lives right now.
